To help unite owners with their lost pets, we offer the AVID microchip as a form of permanent identification.
This implant is smaller than a grain of rice and is injected under the skin, much like a vaccination, and is a painless procedure.
This microchip contains a personal, one-of-a-kind identification number that is read with a special bar code scanner. This scanner reads the number corresponding to your contact information that you provide to recover your pet.
Scanners are provided free of charge to shelters. When a found animal is brought in to either the humane society or our office, the first thing that is done is to scan it for a microchip. AVID is then contacted at 1-800-336-AVID and you are immediately contacted.
Our current charge is $40 to microchip ($35 if done at the same time as a surgical procedure) and AVID charges a one-time enrollment fee of $19.50 for a single pet or $50 for up to five pets.
This is a relatively inexpensive way to provide yourself peace of mind and your pet with a permanent, unalterable means of identification.
